Privacy policy

Last updated 2026-05-06. This is a launch-stage policy and will be expanded as the service grows.

HomeCare Compass (“we”, “us”) is operated by ReferTech Ltd. We take your privacy seriously, especially because finding home care often involves details about your family member’s health. This page explains what we collect, why, and your rights under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What we collect

When you just search by postcode, we collect: the postcode you typed, anonymous analytics (page views, time on page, no cross-site tracking) via Plausible, and basic server logs (IP, user agent) for security and abuse-prevention purposes only. No account is created.

When you request quotes, we additionally collect: your name, email, phone (if you provide it), the relationship to the person needing care, the services needed, hours/visits, funding situation, urgency, and any free-text notes you write. Some of this is special category health data; our lawful basis for processing it is your explicit consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a) and Article 9(2)(a)), given when you submit the form.

Who we share it with

Your contact details and care-needs summary are shared only with the specific agencies you select for quotes. We do not sell, syndicate, or expose your data to wider directories. Agencies have their own privacy obligations as registered care providers with the Care Quality Commission.

We use the following data processors: Neon (database hosting, EU-West-2), Vercel (web hosting, Frankfurt edge by default), Resend (transactional email), Plausible (analytics, no cookies, no cross-site tracking).

How long we keep it

Inquiry records are retained for 12 months from the date your inquiry is closed, after which they are deleted. We keep them this long so we can assist you if you come back with questions, follow-up needs, or a complaint. If you’d like us to delete sooner, email privacy@homecarecompass.co.uk.

Your rights

Email privacy@homecarecompass.co.uk for any of these. We aim to respond within seven days; the legal maximum is one calendar month.

If you’re not happy with how we handle your information, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

We don’t use marketing or tracking cookies. Plausible (our analytics tool) is cookie-free. We set a single first-party cookie (hcc_admin) only on the staff-only admin pages, which doesn’t apply to public visitors.

Important note about CQC ratings

The CQC ratings and inspection findings shown on this site come from data published by the Care Quality Commission under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Ratings are point-in-time and reflect the most recent inspection at the time of our weekly refresh; they may have changed since. Always verify a rating directly with the CQC and the agency before contracting for care.
